April 4, 1922MRS. E.H. MASON
Sarah Manatt was born in Holmes County, Ohio, on the 5th of February, 1848.
At the age of three years she came with her parents to Poweshiek county, Iowa.
Forty-seven years ago she was married to E.H. Mason.
With her husband she built up a beautiful farm home west of Carnforth, Iowa.
Four children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Mason, one of whom died in infancy. The surviving children are: Stella, of Roy, New Mexico; Eugene I., of Grinnell, Iowa; and Hope at home.
There is one grandchild, Faith, of Grinnell, Iowa.
Mrs. Mason, after a long illness, passed to her reward on March 27, 1922, aged 74 years, 1 month and 22 days.
She was a patient sufferer and all that science could do, with the constant care of her loving family, was at her service.
This esteemed lady spent a long and useful life as a dutiful daughter, a model wife, a self sacrificing mother and an exemplary neighbor.
She is mourned by her husband, her children, her grandchild, her two brothers, A.W. Manatt of Brooklyn, Iowa, and R.B. Manatt of Lansing, Kansas; one sister, Mrs. Martin of Carnforth, Iowa; many other relatives and a large circle of friends.
Mrs. Mason was a consistent Christian, in early life a Methodist, but on the organization of the Congregational church at Carnforth she became one of its leading workers.
Her influence in Poweshiek county has been great.
A fitting text, chosen by some who knew her best and loved her most, is Matthew 25,33: 'Well done good and faithful servant; enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.'
The funeral was held at the home on Thursday, March 30, 1922, conducted by Rev. Joseph Snowden, pastor of Carnforth church. Interment was in Brooklyn cemetery.--Brooklyn Chronicle.
