DR. H. PAUL
DOUGLASS DIED

Conducted Community
Survey Here in 1949

A telegram received by The Herald-Register announced the death Tuesday in Montclair, N.J., of Dr. H. Paul Douglass, D.D., distinguished Grinnell college graduate in 1891 and son of Rev. and Mrs. T.O. Douglass, for so many years outstanding figures in Iowa Congregationalism.

Funeral services are being held this evening, Thursday, at 7:30 in the Union Congregational church in Upper Montclair, N.J.

Dr. Douglass is survived by his wife, Rena Sherman Douglass, who attended college in the class of 1898, but did not graduate, and one daughter, Mrs. W.A. Leech, Jr.

It will be recalled that Dr. Douglass spent several months in Grinnell in 1949 as director of the Grinnell community survey. He was considered one of foremost analysts and religious survey experts in the country and in that capacity was associated for many years with the Federal Council of Churches and later with the National Council of Churches.

He was in poor health when he was in Grinnell and of late years has been practically retired. He will be especially remembered for his careful conscientious work during the Grinnell Survey.
