MR. SIMCOE DIES IN FLORIDA

Kenneth Ray Simcoe, 54, of 3161 Bay St., Sarasota, Fla., a former associate director of admissions at Grinnell College, died Jan. 3 at Sarasota Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.

A memorial service was conducted on Jan. 7 at Sarasota. Memorial donations may be made to handicapped societies or other charities.

Born in Loveland, Colo., he attended 12 years of public school. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He attended Illinois Wesleyan University, earning a B.S. degree in 1952. He joined the Grinnell College Admissions Department in 1955 as a student counselor and served as secretary-treasurer of the Iowa Association of College Admissions Counselors from 1960 to 1962.

Mr. Simcoe was appointed by former Governor Harold Hughes to assist former Senator C. Edwin Gilmour in initiating the Iowa Community Action Program under the Office of Economic Opportunity Act.

For four years he was associate director of admissions for Grinnell College. He was a member of the United Church of Christ and the Hermon Masonic Lodge here. He also served as assistant director of admissions and director of financial aid at New College in Sarasota, and 1975 he aided the admissions merger policy of New College into the state system. He was active in marine and navigational sports and taught scuba diving.

Survivors include his wife, Betty; four daughters, Diana Simcoe of Fort Collins, Colo., Marla Kallas of Lincoln, Neb., Leslie Kinsman of El Paso, Tex., and Sara Simcoe of Sarasota; two sons, Richard and Stephen, both of Sarasota; his mother, Fairy Reed of Loveland, Colo.; his brother, Norman Simcoe of Denver, Colo.; and three grandchildren.
