L.C. HICKERSON

Dr. L.C. Hickerson, 75, longtime Brooklyn physician, died at his home Sunday, July 2.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at Grace United Methodist Church in Brooklyn, with the Rev. Kalen K. Fristad officiating. Burial was in Brooklyn Cemetery, with flag-presentation ceremonies conducted by members of Francis Gallagher American Legion Post.

The son of John L. and Vergie Ione Snedeker Hickerson, he was born Dec. 15, 1913, in Mount Ayr. He earned his medical degree from the University of Iowa in 1939 and interned at St. Luke's Hospital, Duluth, Minn. He opened his practice in Brooklyn in 1940.

In June 1941 he was married to Ruth Adair of Indianola. From 1942 to 1945, Dr. Hickerson served as a captain and flight surgeon with the Eighth Air Force in England. After returning to Brooklyn, he served on the Brooklyn School Board for 10 years, as a community health officer, and as Poweshiek County medical examiner. He was also active in the American Legion.

Surviving are his wife; three daughters, Patricia Smith of Wheatland, Susan of Carbondale, Ill., and Jeanne Paulsen of Ashland, Ore.; two granddaughters; and two brothers, J. Mel of Scarsdale, N.Y., and Loren of Iowa City. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister.
