MONTEZUMA MAN
DIES FOLLOWING
AUTO ACCIDENT
---------------------------
(From the Montezuma Republican)

Funeral services were said over the body of L.A. Marsh Saturday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. E.M. Gregson in the Presbyterian church. A large number of relatives and friends were present for the services. Burial was in the Montezuma cemetery.

Lew Marsh enjoyed a host of friends in the community. He was a good farmer and possessed of considerable business acumen. He died as a result of an automobile accident which occurred south of town December 14, which was his birthday. He died the following Thursday in the home in which he was born.

Lew was in town Tuesday following his accident and visited the poultry show and looked after his wrecked automobile.

The following obituary was read at the services.

Lew A. Marsh, only son of Jasper and Nancy Marsh, was born December 14, 1881, and passed away December 19,1935, on the farm on which he was born, as a result of an automobile accident, when the car in which he and Mrs. Marsh were returning from Oskaloosa collided with or was side-swiped by a Missouri truck loaded with corn.

Lew was a successful farmer and stockman of the progressive type. For two or three years, he with his uncle, Dick Saunders, conducted a mercantile business in Lorimor. About 1905 he sold out to his uncle and returned to the farm to partner with his father.

He was united in marriage with Anna Allen on July 1, 1909, and they resided on his home place until his passing.

He became salesman for the Hargrove Manufacturing Co. of Des Moines, and filled that position for about four years. He then became district manager, having charge of 33 counties in the southeastern part of Iowa. He was to become manager of Iowa salesmen for the same company early in 1936. For some years he was local salesman for the Hupmobile auto company.

He was one of the faithful members of the Montezuma band, having been a band man since he was 14 years old.

So has passed on to his reward one of our really important and really progressive citizens. He will be missed by all his acquaintances. He was a member of the First Christian church of Forest Home.

Those from out of town in attendance at the services Saturday afternoon were: Manley Marsh of Ft. Madison; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bryan of Mt. Pleasant; Mr. Flatley and George Martin of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Jess Osborn and Mr. and Mrs. Will Wadsworth of Oskaloosa; Mr. and Mrs. Rex Osborn of Ottumwa.
