MINNIE M. RUTHERFORD

Minnie M. Nicholl, daughter of John and Mary Nicholl was born in County Antrim, Ireland on December 29, 1875. As a young girl she came with her parents to the United States and settled in the Laurel community. On February 14, 1907 she was united in marriage to William Ralph Rutherford of Grinnell, Iowa and lived on a farm west of Grinnell until her husband passed away in 1945. Since then she made home with her daughter.

To this union were born one son, Donald G. Rutherford, and one daughter, Jewell R. Hawk. The son was manager of general plant sales for Swift & Co., at Chicago, Ill. He was an officer in the United States Navy Reserve. He passed away in 1950.

Mrs. Rutherford is survived by her daughter, Jewell and her son-in-law Rupert A. Hawk of Grinnell, Iowa and her daughter-in-law Mrs. Donald G. Rutherford of Chicago, Ill. Besides her immediate family she is survived by two sisters, Mrs. John Madill and Mrs. D.H. Craven.

For many years she had been a member of the Congregational Church.

After several years of failing health she passed away at the hospital in Grinnell, Iowa on Tuesday, October 18, 1955.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon from James Funeral Home with Dr. Winston King of Grinnell College officiating. Norman Goodbrod was musician and pallbearers were Hugh McCleery, Carl Child, Eldon Olds, Sharp Lannom, Raymond Norris and Croft Pilgrim. Burial was at Hazelwood cemetery.
