FUNERAL SERVICES SCHEDULED
TOMORROW FOR DR. RUPERT HAWK

Funeral services will be held tomorrow for Dr. Rupert A. Hawk, one of Grinnell's most distinguished residents who died Tuesday evening at a local hospital following extended failing health.

The services will be held at 2 p.m. at the Congregational church. Masonic graveside services will also be conducted at Hazelwood cemetery.

Dr. Hawk was superintendent of the Grinnell schools from 1937 to 1947, when he became a full-time faculty member of Grinnell College. He had been at the college since, serving in such posts as acting president (1954-55), college treasurer and secretary of the board of trustees (1949--56), and legal counsel (1956-59). He served on the
faculty as associate professor of economics and business.

Dr. Hawk was also active in other community affairs. He had been vice-president of the Iowa State Superintendents Club, vice-president of the local Chamber of Commerce, exalted ruler of the Elks, lieutenant district governor of Kiwanis, and a 33rd-degree Mason. He was also a member of the American Association of School Administrators, the National Education Association, Iowa and American Bar Associations, and the American Accounting Association.

He was born February 16, 1903, in Cottageville, W.Va., the son of Rev. and Mrs. Perry H. Hawk. He was graduated from Burlington high school and Grinnell College, where he was Phi Beta Kappa. He received his M.A. from the State University of Iowa, his law education at Drake University, and his doctor of jurisprudence degree from John Marshall Law School, Chicago.

Dr. Hawk was married in 1940 to Jewell Rutherford of Grinnell, who survives. Other surviving relatives are two brothers, Francis M. Hawk of Fort Worth, Texas, and Dr. Paul Hawk of Marshalltown.

The services tomorrow will be directed by the Rev. Leland W. Mann. Elbert Morse Smith will be the organist. Pallbearers will be Sharp Lannom, R. Homer Norton, Kenyon A. Knopf, G.L. Duke, Ed McNeil, and Dick Seeland.

In preparation for the Masonic services, lodge members will meet at 1:30 at the Masonic Temple.
