SARA WALLACE

Sara Mary Wallace, 94, of Grinnell died Wednesday, June 6 at Friendship Manor.

The Funeral Mass was celebrated Saturday at St. John's Catholic Church in Gilmore City, with the Rev. Richard D. Ball officiating. Pallbearers were Russ DiNatale, Dr. David M. Smith, William D. Smith, Jeffrey Roland, John R. Smith and Charles Wallace. Burial was in Marble Valley Cemetery, Gilmore City.

The daughter of James M. and Mary Lynch Keefe, she was born July 30, 1895, at Ft. Dodge. Her family lived briefly in Fulton, Ill., and she attended Our Lady of Angels Academy in Clinton. She and her family returned to Fort Dodge where she graduated from Sacred Heart High School. She later attended Fort Dodge Business College and worked as a secretary for the Henry Lex Realty Co.

She was married to Charles Wallace April 14, 1921, in Fort Dodge, and the couple lived in Gilmore City where they operated Wallace Realty and Insurance Co. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Gilmore City.

Following the death of her husband, she came to Grinnell in 1970. She had lived at Friendship Manor since 1983.

While in Grinnell she was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Bette Smith of Grinnell; one son, Thomas of West Linn, Ore.; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ethel Hogan of Gilmore City and Stella Ware of East Moline, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Richard; her parents; four brothers and five sisters.
