FREDERICK OWEN PLAYLE

Frederick Owen Playle was born Feb. 27th, 1882 in Poweshiek county and died at Grinnell Sept. 22nd, 1955, following a two year illness.

The son of William Thomas Playle and Syntha Ann Wymor, he spent most of his life in Grinnell employed as a machine operator in a railroad car shop.

In December, 1905, he was married to Catherine Johnson at Montezuma who preceded him in death in 1913. In October, 1918, he married Mary Dofle who also preceded him in death in 1933.

Surviving are six children: Mrs. Frank (Carmen) Saunders of Grinnell; Mrs. Frank (Beatrice) LaGrange, Grinnell; Mrs. Dorothy Norkus, St. Louis, Mo.; Frederick Playle, Seattle, Wash.; Irene Whitles, Roswell, New Mexico; and Raymond Playle of Newton.

Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Belle McMeekin of Grinnell and Mrs. Bessie Rivers of Searsboro; and one brother, Byron Playle of Des Moines.

Four children also preceded him in death.

Last services were held Monday, Sept. 26th from the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. E.E. Beattie, minister of the United Presbyterian church officiating. Organ music was furnished by Ed Bohstedt.

Pallbearers were Floyd Beason, Douglas Grubb, Howard Jones, Floyd LaGrange, Harvey Marcum and Phil Stewart.

Interment was in Hazelwood Cemetery.
