SERVICES HELD

Funeral services for Mrs. Freda Cordes, 88, who died Jan. 16 at the Brookhaven Nursing Home in Brooklyn, were held Thursday, Jan. 20, at the McAninch Chapel in Victor.

The Rev. Robert Gamble, pastor of the Kellogg Methodist Church, officiatied, and burial was in Emmanuel Cemetery. Pallbearers included Bill Jahlas, Everett Timm, Melvin Koehn, LaVerne Jahlas, Virgil Koehn and Raymond Jahlas.

Music was provided by Mrs. Edith Shaul. Flower bearers were Mr. and Mrs. George Norden and Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Morton.

Freda Dorothea Jahlas Cordes, daughter of John and Dorothea Jahlas, was born Sept. 9, 1883, in Mechlenburg, Germany. She came to America with her parents, three sisters and two brothers, in April of 1895, settling in Guernsey. She was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church, but later joined the Methodist Church.

She was married to William H. Cordes Dec. 25, 1911, in Graettinger. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1961.

Mr. and Mrs. Cordes had four children--Mrs. Earl (Irene) Bryan of Grinnell, Mrs. Ed (Lila) Eberle of Wichita, Kan., Mrs. Ed (Wilma) Watkins of Malcom, and Darrell Cordes of Victor.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, three daughters and sons-in-law, eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, her sister Mrs. Arthur Koehn of Victor, and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
