GRANVILLE STANLEY

Granville M. Stanley, was born Jan. 2, 1884, on a farm near Searsboro, the son of Marion and Elizabeth White Stanley. He died Thursday, Aug. 16, 1956, at a Marshalltown hospital.

He moved with this family to Taintor in Mahaska county where he grew to manhood. He was married Dec. 12, 1905, to Alpha Steen. They lived in Mahaska county until 1916 when they moved to Gilman where, for more than 40 years, Stanley had been station agent for the M. & St.L. railroad.

He was a member of the Gilman Community church, served several years as church treasurer and at the time of his death was treasurer of the town of Gilman. He was a 30-year member of the Cyrus lodge AF & AM and the ORT.

Mr. and Mrs. Stanley celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last December.

Survivors include his widow; two sons, Marion and Wendall, both of Marshalltown; three grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Grace Miller of Searsboro, Mrs. Opal Craver of New Sharon and Mrs. Lottie Ellwood; and one brother, Harry Stanley of Oskaloosa. Preceding him in death were three brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 20, at the Gilman Community church in charge of the Rev. Wendall Henline and the Rev. Corwin Taylor. Burial was in Prairie View cemetery at Gilman.

Pallbearers were Bruce Doane, Harvey Hausman, Ray Millan, Ray Wiseman, T.S. Weaver and T.R. Thompson.
