JOHN MITCHELL HICKS

Funeral service was held June 2, at Watts Funeral Home, at Montezuma, for John Mitchell Hicks. Officiating was the Rev. Bobby Dickerson.

Casket bearers were Jon Peterson, Dennis Meldrem, Sheldon Gregson, Frank Pierce, Sandy Landstrum, and Richard Lockwood. Burial was in Jackson Township Cemetery, Montezuma.

John Mitchell Hicks, son of John and Emma McCoy Hicks, was born on July 1, 1917 east of Montezuma, and passed away on May 31, 1984, at Montezuma at 66.

He attended Montezuma Schools. In 1940 he was united in marriage with Leona Davis. To this union five children were born. He worked on a survey crew and drove a truck before going to work at Maytag in Newton where he worked for 29 years. He retired in 1980.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant son, John Lynn and one sister, Veta McCain.

He is survived by two sons and their wives: James (Meryl) Hicks and Jerry (Dottie) Hicks all of Montezuma; two daughters: Carol and her husband Kenneth Maschmann of Montezuma and Kim Hicks of Flippen, Ark.; eight grandchildren and one sister: Mrs. Al (Mildred) Sprouse of Montezuma; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
