Gladys Lorene Cormicle, 80, of Newton died Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004 at USA Healthcare--Newton in Newton.

Memorial services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Newton with the Rev. Gary Marzolf officiating. Her body was cremated. Burial will be at a later date at the Newton Union Cemetery. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements. No visitation is planned.

The daughter of Edward and Carrie (Nicholaysen) Larsen, she was born Jan. 11, 1924, in Grinnell. She graduated from Grinnell High School. On Jan. 5, 1947, she married Gurnea E. Cormicle in Grinnell. She worked for the Maytag Company and later in the Jasper County Attorney's office.

Mrs. Cormicle was a 50-year member of the First United Methodist Church in Newton and was a member of the YMCA. She was a past chairman of the Jasper County Democratic Party and taught Sunday school for 20 years at the First United Methodist Church. She bowled in Jasper County bowling leagues for more than 40 years and won many bowling awards. She was a resident in Newton since 1940.

Survivors include a son, Bruce Cormicle of Los Angeles, Calif.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Denise and Ray Loehr of Dallas, Texas, and Lynette Armstrong of Grimes; five grandchildren; and two sisters, Edna Felper of Albion and Olga Carpenter of Mt. Carmel, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
