Sam H. Myers, son of Sam and Mary Myers was born on a farm near Marengo, Ia., March 30, 1908. He attended the country school and grew up in the same community.
He entered the United States army April 30, 1941, and was discharged November 1941.
On January 9, 1942, he was united in marriage to Vivian Courtney of Brooklyn, Iowa. He was called back into the armed services on January 16, 1942, after the attack on Pearl Harbor and served his country until June 1943, when he was discharged.
After their marriage and his discharge from the services, they farmed near Blairstown until 1946, at which time they bought a café in Malcom where they have made their home since.
His health had been failing for the past nine years, and he had been in and out of the Veterans hospital in Iowa City several times. He entered the Veterans hospital the last time on Jan. 24, 1958, where he had the best of care and medical aid. The end came Wednesday evening, Feb. 19, at 8:40 p.m., at the age of 49 years, 10 months and 19 days.
He leaves to mourn his passing his devoted wife; four daughters--Carol, Sammie, Diane, and Mary--all at home; his father; four sisters; three brothers; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives, and many friends.
His mother; one brother and one sister preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held from the McAninch chapel on February 22, 1958, with the Rev. C.E. Kingsley in charge, and military rites were conducted by the Brooklyn American Legion post of which he was a member.
Two songs, "Beyond the Sunset" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" were sung by Hollis Fish, with Mrs. George Keller at the organ.
Flowers were cared for by Mr. and Mrs. Virgil McCammant, and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Puls.
Casket bearers were Jerry Wang, James Puls, Darrell Casey, Francis Chvala, Robert Edwards and Lyle Dellamuth, and burial was in the Malcom cemetery.
