Frank L. Brown, 92, of Grinnell died of complications of a stroke Sunday, Sept. 1, at Friendship Manor.
Funeral services are set for 10 a.m. Friday at the Grinnell First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tim Stewart officiating. Organist will be Denise Baustian, and soloist will be Marty Duffus. Pallbearers will be Keith and Kenneth Brown, Dennis, Rick and David Fleener, and Jeff Wellik. Honorary bearers will be members of the IOOF Lodge. Burial will be at Hazelwood Cemetery, with the Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
The son of Frank Oral and Jennie Lucette Jane Holmes Brown, he was born Feb. 26, 1910, in Sheridan Township. He was raised in the Searsboro area and was a graduate of Searsboro High School.
He was married to Arville Esther Mackin Nov. 24, 1938, in Grinnell. She died in February 1953. On July 21, 1963, he was married to Esther Fleener in Grinnell. She died in June 1994.
Mr. Brown lived in the Searsboro and Grinnell area all his life. He farmed in Poweshiek County for many years and was formerly employed by Maytag in Newton and the Donaldson Company in Grinnell. He was a drummer for several area dance bands for over 80 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, IOOF Lodge and Victor Grange.
He is survived by one son, Max of Marion, a stepson, Dennis Fleener of Grinnell; one sister, Genevieve Mahannah of Keokuk; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two great -grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; both wives; two brothers, Fred and Leslie; two sisters, Grace Brown and Lucille Davis; and a stepson, Harold Fleener.
