BAILEY RITES HELD TUESDAY

Marjorie L. Bailey, 87, died Sunday evening, Aug. 14, at Friendship Manor in Grinnell.

Funeral services for Marjorie Bailey were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, at the Smith Funeral Home. The Rev. Carl Klein, pastor of the Bethel Methodist church, officiated, and organist was Lucille Fritz. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

The daughter of Charles and Alice Hickox Cooper, she was born near Knoxville on June 8, 1890. She attended schools in Knoxville and later studied at the former Des Moines University. Following her education she taught in rural schools.

On June 26, 1918, she was married to Van Buren Bailey at her parents' farm near Lamberton, Minn. Following their marriage, the couple made their home in the Bethel Community until 1969, when they moved to retire in Des Moines. She moved to Grinnell in March of this year and lived at the Friendship Manor until her death.

She was a member of the Bethel Methodist Church, the Bethel Grange and the Farm Bureau.

She is survived by her daughters, Alice Baker of rural Grinnell and Eleanor Woods of Des Moines. Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents, a brother, and a sister.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Bethel Methodist Church.
