JAMES SEYMOUR
STOAKS DIES ON
FRIDAY EVENING

Funeral services for James Seymour Stoaks, who died suddenly at his home here Friday evening, were held Sunday afternoon at 5 o'clock from the home conducted by the Rev. Charles R. Rowe, minister of the Methodist church.

Mr. Stoaks, who was nearly 78 years old at the time of his death, was the son of Peter and Nancy Stoaks, and was born at Donahue in Scott county, Iowa, on December 11, 1857. He married Almira M. Palmer on June 1, 1882, and engaged in farming until 1916, when they moved to Grinnell.

He was converted in 1906 in a camp meeting near his home by Dr. U.S. Smith, an evangelist, and with Mrs. Stoaks became a member of the Methodist Episcopal church. The couple had their first membership in the Ewart circuit, and later transferred their membership to Grinnell after moving here. Mr. Stoaks was a faithful member of the church, regular in attendance, and always eager to do his share in carrying on the work of the church.

His widow, two sisters, Mrs. Bradley of Malcom and Mrs. Mabel Newton of Oregon, and two brothers, Leander and Linnie, both of Grinnell, survive him.

Music at the simple services which were held at his home Sunday, was furnished by Mrs. John Carter and Mrs. Roscoe Dempster. Pallbearers were T.S. Mason, E.L. Dietrich, G.O. Watland, W.R. Mullins, E.E. Hayes and C.S. George.
