ESTHER BURROUGHS
DIES IN CALIFORNIA

Word has been received of the death of Esther Burroughs, 82, of Glendale, Calif.

The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Burroughs of Grinnell, she was born Dec. 28, 1891. As the result of a severe childhood illness, she was left without hearing and she studied lip-reading and voice conversation in Boston, Mass. She later graduated with honors form Grinnell High School, then received a degree in science from Grinnell College.

Upon moving to California, Miss Burroughs became an employee of the Auto Association of California, where she worked for nearly 40 years. She died of a stroke Jan. 13.

Memorial services were held at Glendale, with her sister, Mrs. Florence Burroughs Dunn of Berkeley, Calif., officiating.

Survivors included her sister, two nieces, and their children. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Thomas and George.
