Harvey M. Vail, 85, of 927 Seeland Park, Grinnell, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church in Montezuma, with the Rev. George Salnave officiating. Soloist was Rhonda Minner, and organist was Kathleen Ramsey. Pallbearers were Greg, Steve and Dan Vail, Kyle Ferguson and David Wilson. Burial was in Forest Cemetery, Oskaloosa, with the Watts Funeral Home of Montezuma in charge of arrangements.
The son of Elmer and Louise Kitzman Vail, he was born Dec. 10, 1910, near What Cheer. He was a 1929 graduate of Sigourney High School.
He was married to Iola Leinenweaver in 1934. They farmed near Thornburg for many years, then moved to Oskaloosa where Mr. Vail worked for Montgomery Ward and William Penn College. Mrs. Vail died in 1972.
Mr. Vail was married to Fae Braden in 1974. After retiring they moved to Montezuma and in 1991 they moved to Seeland Park.
Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Beverly Wilson of Bella Visa, Ark.; a son, Max of Des Moines, one step-daughter, Marlene Ferguson of Des Moines; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Chet of Sigourney.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife.
Memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Montezuma Fire Department or the First Presbyterian Church of Montezuma.
