OBITUARY

Mary S., daughter of Poultney and Maria Mitchel *Soughridge, was born in Ohio March 23, 1839, and died in Oskaloosa, Ia., January 12, 1914. In the year of 1841 her father's family moved to Iowa and in 1843 to Mahaska County.

She was married to Philip Shaver in 1867 by Rev. Mr. (McAyel)? To this union five children were born, all of whom are living. Mrs. Delia Edgington of Sheffield, Lee Shaver of Delta, Mrs. Cora Hansen of Oskaloosa, Mrs. Elizabeth Leidtka and Miss Katherine Shaver of Rock Island, Ill. Mrs. Emily J. Coryell of this city, is a sister and her brothers are M.J. Soughridge of Grants Pass, Ore., Thomas L. of Bozeman, Mont. and (Pmt.)? Albert L., now touring Europe. Her husband, who was well known in this community, has been deceased six years. In 1875 the family moved to Poweshiek Co. where they resided nineteen years at which time they moved to this city, where she continued to live until her death. She joined the United Presbyterian church at the age of fifteen years under the pastorate of Rev. (McAyarl)? After moving to Poweshiek Co. she united with the Methodist Episcopal and was one of the charter members of the Madison church. She was a faithful member and her life and devotion were those of a constant Christian. For more than a year she was in feeble health from an ailment the termination of which she knew would be death. She received great consolation from the Scriptures and by faith anticipated the glory and happiness of Heaven, which she realizes now more fully.

The funeral services were held Wednesday, Janaury 14 at the Central M.E. church, conducted by the Rev. W.N. Hall. Interment was in Forest cemetery.
