SUCCUMBS SUNDAY;
RITES AT LAMONI

Mrs. Gertrude L. Walden, 59, wife of Evan H. Walden of 1133 Main Street, died Sunday evening at a Grinnell hospital after a long illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Reorganized Latter Day Saints church in Lamoni with burial at Rose Hill cemetery.

The daughter of Otis and Louise Smith White, she was born on Sept. 7th, 1906, at Lamoni. She attended the schools of Lamoni and graduated from Graceland College in 1927.

On June 26th, 1928, she was united in marriage with Evan H. Walden at Lamoni and to this union four children were born: Mrs. Alvin (Carolyn) Berry of Stamford, Conn.; Kenneth of Surry, Maine; William of Portland, Ore.; and John of Riverside, Calif.

Mrs. Walden taught piano and voice throughout her life and when possible continued her music education at several colleges.

Mr. and Mrs. Walden made their home at Lamoni until 1951 when they moved to Des Moines where he was affiliated with Drake University. In 1955 they moved to Oberlin, Ohio, where he held a position with Oberlin College. They came to Grinnell and Grinnell College in 1958.

She is survived by her husband, Evan, her mother, Mrs. Otis White of Lamoni; and two brothers, Rollin White of Lamoni and Maxwell of Tahlequah, Okla. Also surviving are her four children and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father and an infant sister.
