Mrs. Mary (May) Theresa Gallagher, age 85, of Buckley Hall, Mayflower Home, died Saturday evening, March 15, at Grinnell General Hospital East. She had been hospitalized March 6, following a heart attack.

She was born Dec. 14, 1883, at Brooklyn, Iowa, the daughter of John and Catherine Glixner Schmitz. She attended the Brooklyn schools and later taught in the 4th grade at Cooper school in Grinnell. She was married to Dr. O.H. Gallagher at Brooklyn, Iowa, on June 11, 1907. To this marriage were born two daughters and a son, Mrs. Wilma Segrest of New York City, N.Y., J.R "Pat" Gallagher of West Branch, Iowa, and Mrs. Howard S. ("Peggy") Cole III of Houston, Texas.

Along with her three children, Mrs. Gallagher is survived by eight grandchildren--Mrs. Lawrence Froeberg of Western Springs, Ill., Mrs. Melvin O'Hara of Warm Springs, Mont., Dennis Gallagher of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Kevin and Seven Gallagher of West Branch, Iowa, and Kathy, Michael and Terry Cole of Houston, Texas. Mrs. Gallagher also leaves two great grandchildren--Karen and Laurie Froeberg of Western Springs, Ill, and one sister and two brothers--Miss Marguerite Schmitz of Oakland, Calif., William Schmitz of Mobridge, S. Dak., and Albert Schmitz of Largo, Fla.

Mrs. Gallagher was preceded in death by her husband in July of 1938 and two brothers and one sister Fred and Dr. Emery Schmitz and Florence McCloskey.

Mrs. Gallagher had lived in the Grinnell area most of her life. She was a member of the United Church of Christ (Congregational), the Womens Division of the Church and was a member of the Levart Club.

A Memorial Service for Mrs. Gallagher will be held 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the United Church of Christ (Congregational) with the Rev. Newell E. Davis, officiating.

Following cremation, her ashes will be interred in the family lot at Hazelwood Cemetery.

It is the family's suggestion that friends wishing to remember Mrs. Gallagher may make a memorial gift to the Grinnell General Hospital Building Fund.
