DARLENE CAMPBELL

Darlene June Campbell, 61, of Grinnell died Tuesday, may 28, at her home.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home, with eh Rev. Michael Smith, pastor of the Grinnell First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Organist was Kathleen Heffner, and vocalist was Milton Severe. Casket bearers were Gordon Canfield, Roy Jones, Daryl Morrison, Rick Ramsey, John Ruchotzke and Doug Se??. Interment was in the West Pine section of Hazelwood Cemetery.

The daughter of Harold and Laura Kendall Walther, she was born June 4, 1940, in Iowa City. She was raised in West Liberty and was a graduate of West Liberty High School. She received a B.A. degree in music from the University of Iowa. She then taught in Storm Lake and Atlantic.

On July 24, 1965, she was married to Merlyn Bos in Wilton Junction. They moved to Grinnell in 1968, and she taught in the Southeast Marshall County School District. Mr. Bos died in 1971.

She was married to Jerry Switzer June 30, 1973, in Grinnell. They lived in Grinnell, and she was a Mary Kay sales representative. She founded the Town and Country Singers and participated in many husband-wife golf tournaments. Mr. Switzer died in 1984.

She was married to Reggie Campbell Aug. 15, 1987, in Grinnell. They operated a motel and restaurant. She served as retail coordinator for the Grinnell Area Chamber of Commerce. She later worked in the child support recovery program for the state of Iowa.

She was a member and choir director of the First Presbyterian Church and was involved in Community Theatre productions. While serving with the Chamber of Commerce, she coordinated the annual hot air balloon rally. She also served on the Grinnell Golf and Country Club board of directors and was the organization's first female president.

Surviving are her husband; her mother; three daughters, Laurie Pitzer of Houston, Texas, Corrine Switzer of Marshalltown and Jenny Campbell of Grinnell; one son, Jay Switzer of Evanston, Ill.; two grandchildren; one sister, Jane Grell of Walsenberg, Colo.; and two brothers, Larry Walther of DeWitt and Dennis Walther of Grand Island, Neb.

She was preceded in death by her father and her first and second husbands.
