USEFUL LIFE OF
WM. C. STIMSON
REACHES CLOSE
-------------------------

William C. Stimson, son of John and Isabelle Colvert Stimson, was born at Eagle Mills, North Carolina, May 25, 1875, and departed this life at his home in Montezuma February 20, 1938, aged sixty-two years, eight months and twenty-six days.

He attended the rural school and high school in his native state. He was employed in a drug store for a few years and then worked for several years in a flour mill with his father and brother.

In 1894 Will came to Iowa, and worked for several years on farms in this county. While employed on the farm of J.D. Carpenter he became acquainted with Flora Carpenter, whom he married on February 18, 1903. To this union were born five children: Lowell, Eunice, Wayne, Myrle and Minerva.

After renting a farm for five years Mr. and Mrs. Stimson bought a farm of their own, where they resided until 1915, at which time they moved to Texas. They were not pleased with farming conditions in Texas, and in 1918 returned to their farm near Malcom. On January 31, 1932 his wife passed to her reward and one year later, on account of his poor health, Will sold his stock and farming equipment and retired from active farming. He was not satisfied, however, with this inactivity and in 1934 he purchased an acreage near Montezuma, where he resumed farming on a small scale, continuing to the end.

On April 9, 1937, at Monmouth, Illinois, he was united in marriage with Flora Reed Lockhard, who was with him at the time of his death.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife; her daughters, Florence and Louise, and her son, William; three brothers, Arthur Stimson of Cross Lake, Minn., James Stimson of Statesville, N.C., Claude Stimson of Miami, Florida; and one sister, Mattie Fraley of Statesville, N.C.; two sons, Lowell C. of Des Moines, Wayne C. of Clear Lake; three daughters, Mrs. Leslie Douglass of Malcom, Mrs. Walter Audas of Brooklyn, and Minerva of Grinnell; and four granddaughters, besides many other relatives and friends.

Will was industrious and thrifty, and made a success of everything he attempted. Many have said that he was a good, honest man, and everyone who knew him was his friend.

Prayer services were conducted at the home by Rev. Thomas R. Hill followed by the funeral services in the Presbyterian church in Malcom in charge of Rev. E. Claude Smith. Pall bearers were Edgar Stimson, Charles Reed, J.L. Carpenter, R.R. Carpenter, I.J. Baltisberger and John Durr. Present from a distance to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Stimson, of Cross Lake, Minn., and Vera Lowman of Denison.
