ELLA F. SCOBEE

Ella F. Scobee, 86, died Wednesday, June 7, at Friendship Manor in Grinnell.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Kenneth Wallace of Chester Congregational Church and the Rev. Rich Gamble of Gilman Community Church officiating. Organist was Janice Everts, and soloist was Milton Severe. Pallbearers were Jeff, Tom, Josh and Matt Dillman, Doug Edge, Randy Lidtka and Ben Hansen.

Fraternal rites were conducted by Order of Eastern Star, with burial in Chester Cemetery, rural Grinnell.

She was the daughter of Arthur and Rose Metter Rugg and was born Aug. 5, 1908, on a farm near Cedar Falls. She was a graduate of Cedar Falls High School.

On Dec. 7, 1929, she was married to Clarence Scobee in Cedar Falls. She was active in the Evangelical United Brethren Church and was a member of Order of Eastern Star, White Shrine and the Cedar Falls Women's Club. During World War II she was a Red Cross nurse's aide and volunteered at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls.

Mr. and Mrs. Scobee moved to a farm north of Grinnell in 1966, and she owned and operated Ella's Flowers on Broad St. She was a member of the Chester Church, Chester Women's Fellowship, the Grinnell Women's Club and Beulah Chapter of O.E.S., of which she was past worthy matron. She was a 56-year member of the Order of Eastern Star.

Surviving are her husband, Clarence of Gilman; a daughter, Rosella Dillman of rural Gilman; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Russell and Robert Rugg; one sister, Helen Jay; a sister in infancy; and one grandson.

Memorial contributions in her name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
