ALLAN MCCULLOUGH, 70

Allan George McCullough, 70, of rural Deep River, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Funeral services we Jan. 30 at Watts Funeral Home in Montezuma, with Don Ridenour officiating. Casket bearers were Dan Harbert, Loren Hall, Arlo Tish, Keith Tish, Duane George, Dennis Long and Ed Zimmerman. Honorary casket bearers were Maynard Zimmerman, Art Merck, and Lowell "Bing" Wolf.

Members of Morrison-Schrader Legion Post No. 296 of Deep River performed graveside military rites at Golden Rod Cemetery, Deep River.

The son of Harry and Edith McCullough, Allan was born July 30, 1931, on the family farm southeast of Deep River, in Iowa County. He graduated from Deep River High School in 1949. He began farming with his father, then served in the U.S. Army from March 1953 to March 1955. Upon release from the service, he returned to operate the family farm with his father. On July 23, 1953, he married Joyce Worrall at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. He enjoyed farming, fishing and hunting.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Keith; and his daughter Susan Schmidt on Oct. 10, 1997.

Surviving are his wife, Joyce; sons, Steven (Tammy) McCullough of Keswick and Mark (Mary) McCullough, Deep River; nine grandchildren; a great-grandson; a sister, Marian (Walter) Harbert, Belle Plaine; and other relatives.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother, Keith McCullough; and a daughter, Susan Schmidt, on Oct. 10, 1997.
