ETHEL BEASON

Ethel See Beason, 88, of Grinnell, a former long-time resident of Lynnville, died Thursday, Aug. 5, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services for Ethel Beason were held at 2 p.m. today (Monday) at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell, with Pastor Dan Ver Woert of Lynnville officiating. Organist was Margaret Wheeler. Pallbearers included Bill Farrell, Bill Gilliland, Natasha, Scott and Tommy Johnson, Duane Phipps and Brian Williamson. Burial was in West Liberty Cemetery near Montezuma.

Born Aug. 1, 1916, in Burdette, Iowa, she was the daughter of Mack and Carolyn Bowen See. She moved to Grinnell as a young child, following the death of her mother, and was raised in a foster home. She received her education in rural schools and, later, the Grinnell School District.

She married Leland L. Beason on Dec. 4, 1943. The couple made their home in the Lynnville area. She was a homemaker and was employed as a housekeeper for several families in the area. She moved to Grinnell in 1998.

She is survived by a brother-in-law, Gerald Beason of Lynnville; a sister-in-law, Nora See of Du Quoin, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews, including Tommy Johnson of Grinnell. She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Jennie Tennatt See; her husband; a brother, Jessie See; and a sister, Gladys Johnson.

Memorials may be directed to the Ethel Beason Memorial Fund, care of Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell.
