ZELMA MAE DOUD

Zelma Mae Doud, 85, of Grinnell died Thursday, Jan. 8, at the Mayflower Health Care Center.

Funeral services were conduced Monday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Del Dawes of the Grinnell United Methodist Church officiating. Organist was Margaret Wheeler, and pallbearers were Bob Boyd, Ed Brand, John Hoffstetter, John Large, Kenneth "Kutter" Paul and David Thompson. Fraternal rites were conducted by members of Poweshiek Rebekah Lodge No. 119. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

The daughter of Arthur and Lily Tilton Squire, she was born May 2, 1912, in Grinnell, where she was raised and educated. She was a 1931 graduate of Grinnell High School.

On May 22, 1937, she was married to Clarence Doud in Grinnell. She was employed in the cutting room of the Grinnell Shoe Company for over 20 years. She later cared for her mother for several years.

She was a 77-year member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church and was active with the United Methodist Women and various circle groups. She was past noble grand and secretary of the Poweshiek Rebekah Lodge. She was also a member of the Pythian Sisters and the Grinnell Fire Department Auxiliary. She served on the Election Board for over 20 years.

Mrs. Doud was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two sisters, Lola Squire and Florence Swart.

Memorials may be made to her church or to the Grinnell Fire Department.
