SERVICES FOR ETHEL BROOKS

Funeral services were held Tuesday for Ethel May Graham Brooks, 84, of Grinnell, who died June 5 at Grinnell General Hospital.

The Rev. Douglas P. Harding, associate pastor at the United Methodist Church, officiated at the memorial service which was held at 1:30 p.m. at the Smith Funeral Home. Organist was Kathleen Heffner and Ruth Ann Dayton was the vocalist. Jackie and Phyllis Graham were flower bearers, and pallbearers were George, John and Vernon Graham and Dennis, James and Richard Parrott. Burial was at Hazelwood Cemetery.

The daughter of Eli and Willomina Hoover Graham, Mrs. Brooks was born south of Grinnell on Oct. 23, 1898. She attended the rural schools near the family farm and attended Cedar Falls Teachers College.

She taught in the rural schools of Poweshiek and Jasper Counties and, on March 22, 1922, was married to Michael C. Brooks at her parents' home. The couple farmed east of Kellogg for seven years and then for thirty years south of Grinnell. In 1957, they retired from farming to make their home at 517 8th Ave., Grinnell.

Mrs. Brooks was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the OBC Club, the Grandmothers Club and the Auxiliary of the Veterans of World War I Barracks.

Mrs. Brooks is survived by her husband, Michael C. Brooks; two children, Naomi Gerard of Brooklyn and Verleen Eggman of Grinnell; a sister, Elsie Dieleman of Creston; six grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Earl E. Graham.
