LEVI MEDLEY

Levi Medley was born in the state of Ohio, November 10, 1848 and passed from this life at Grinnell, Iowa, Sunday, September 4, 1921, aged 72 years, 9 months, 24 days.

Little is known of his earlier life. In the year 1870 he enlisted in Co. G., 6th Regt. U.S. infantry and continued in service chiefly in the western states for about 5 years being honorably discharged in 1874. On March 12, 1893 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Nancy Clarke and for the last 30 years or more he has resided in Grinnell.

Of his immediate family he was preceded in death by his father, mother and 2 sisters. He is survived by his wife and 5 step-children and by 2 brothers, Hiram Medley of Harvey, Illinois; William Medley of Astoria, Oregon; and 2 sisters, Mrs. Annie Cardinell of Mound City, Missouri and a sister in Oregon.

Death came thru cancer and he was a great sufferer during his last days. To Christian friends interested in his salvation who visited him in his affliction he gave evidence that he had gained peace with his God.

The funeral was held at the Friends church, Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. In the unavoidable absence of the pastor the sermon was delivered by H.E. Rosenberger, from the text in St. John's Gospel, chapter 10, verse 9, "I am the door; by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out and find pasture."

The body was laid to rest in Hazelwood cemetery to await the final resurrection of the quick and dead.
