MARLENE HAMMOND

Marlene R. Hammond, formerly of Brooklyn, died at her home in Cedar Rapids on September 5, 1987. She was born on November 17, 1934, the daughter of Fred and Hazel Ostrom who farmed in Madison Township. On April 14, 1962, she married David Hammond at the Madison Church of Christ.

Marlene was a 1951 graduate of Brooklyn High School, a 1955 graduate of the University of Northern Iowa, and earned her Master of Science degree from Iowa State University in 1967.

She was a third grade teacher at Pierce Elementary School in Cedar Rapids since 1967. Marlene continued to teach through Friday, Sept. 4. Burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery in Belle Plaine.

She was a member of Saint Paul's United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids, the National Education Association, the Iowa State Education Association, the Cedar Rapids Education Association, and the International Reading Association.

She is survived by her husband, David.
