MATIE SMITH RITES FRIDAY

Matie B. Smith, 90 of 616 Broad St. died Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Mayflower Home.

Services will be conducted a 2 p.m. Friday at the Clemons United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Philip Ramstad, pastor of the Grinnell United Church of Christ-Congregational, officiating. Burial will be in the Clemons Cemetery, with the Wensel-Perrin Funeral Home of State Center in charge of arrangements.

The daughter of Fred and Mary Teager Van Metre, she was born June 24, 1894, in Marshall County. She received her education in the Marshall County schools.

She was married to B.A. Smith in 1915. They farmed and retired in the Clemons area. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Clemons United Church of Christ.

She is survived by two sons, Max A. Smith of Grinnell and Eugene T. Smith of Indianola; one brother, Wilbur Van Metre of Green Bay, Wis.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1972.
