CONDUCT SERVICES
SATURDAY FOR
ALICE MATTINGLY

Services were held Saturday afternoon at the James-Schalinske Funeral Home for Mrs. Alice Mattingly, 89, Grinnell, who died Thursday at a local rest home.

Officiating was the Rev. G.S. Bruland, pastor of the Methodist church, and music was furnished by Mrs. Dolph Miller, accompanied by Mrs. Kathleen Heffner. Pallbearers were Fred Timm, Virgil Broders, Grover Loftin Jr., LaVerne Loftin, Raymond King and Warren Johnson. Interment was in Hazelwood cemetery.

Born April 12, 1870, at Salem, Iowa, she attended the public schools near her home and attended the Methodist church. She was united in marriage with Samuel F. Mattingly at Marshalltown on Feb. 6, 1888, and to this union five children were born.

For several years they farmed near Ferguson and in 1918, Mr. and Mrs. Mattingly moved to the Sheridan neighborhood near Grinnell, where they farmed and made their home. Mr. Mattingly died in 1932 and 5 years ago Mrs. Mattingly moved from the farm to 1030 Elm Street in Grinnell.

Also preceding her in death were two daughters, Iris, who died in childhood, and Mrs. John (Esther) Wallis; her parents; one sister, Hattie; four brothers, Jess, Nathan, Dow and Harvey; and a half-brother, Joe Hacker.

Survivors include three sons, Ralph H. and Guille (Yuille) E. of Grinnell; and Guy of Toledo; 11 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
