RITES CONDUCTED

Robert L. Henderson, 59, of 521 Park St. died of a heart attack in the emergency room of Grinnell General Hospital Monday afternoon.

The Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Harry Linnenbrink officiating. Music was provided by members of St. Mary's Choir and organist Mary Ellen Brock.

Pallbearers were Gilbert Avalos, Robert J. Bullock Jr., George Gilbert, Gerald McCurry, Ben Mitchell, James Olson, Marlyn Olson and Gilmore Robbins Jr. Honorary bearers were Joe L. Brown, Pierce Comerford, Leo W. Flanagan, Gene Gilbert, William H. Noel, Edwin M. Peterson and Donald Pfiefer.

Veterans graveside rites were conducted by the Grinnell Veterans Ceremonial Unit, with burial in Hazelwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Robert Henderson Memorial Fund and left at the Smith Funeral Home.

The son of Lloyd and Mary Ellen Essex Henderson, he was born Aug. 2, 1924, in Grinnell. He graduated from Grinnell High School in 1943 and enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving during World War II.

On June 1, 1946, he was married to Mary Robbins in Grinnell. Mr. Henderson was associated with General Telephone Co. since 1958 as a security technician. He had been on long-term disability since 1981.

He was a member of St. Mary's, the Fourth Degree of Knights of Columbus, the Grinnell Elks Lodge and the American Legion. He was a past grand knight of the Third Degree of Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife, Mary, his daughters, Katherine D. Johnston of Baxter and Suzanne M. Wilkins and Margaret E. Sieck, both of Grinnell; eight grandchildren; and one brother, Donald K. Henderson of Newton. He was preceded in death by his parents.
