MILDRED CLAYBROOK

Mildred E. Claybrook, 76, of Searsboro died Thursday, Dec. 14, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services were conducted Monday at the Smith Funeral Home, with Jeffrey Evans officiating. Organist was Margaret Wheeler, and vocalist was Milton Severe.

Pallbearers were Larry Hamor, Michael Hamor, Lynn Johnson, Danny Van Gorp, Jim Saunders and Jeff Davis. Honorary bearers were John Phipps, Jerry Grosenbach, Kenny Stott, Clyde Keller, Denny Moes, CHuck Quillen and Joe Berger.

Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

The daughter of Edwaad and edith Speaks Onthank, she was born May 27, 1919, in the Oak Grove community. She received her education in rural schools.

She was married to Wendell Claybrook Feb. 28, 1942, in Lancaster, Mo. They farmed in Poweshiek County and owned and operated several restaurants in Grinnell and Oskaloosa. Mrs. Claybrook also drove a bus for Head Start for several years.

She is survived by her husband and six sisters, Elsie Van Gorp, Darlene Hamor and Mollie Saunders, all of Grinnell, Rose Johnson of Searsboro, Grace Onthank of Marshalltown and Irene Kester of Montezuma. She was preceded in death by her parents; two stepmothers, Ollie and Bonnie Onthank; one son, Lonnie, who died in infancy; and a sister, Mary Doris Onthank, who also died in infancy.
