WILMA OPAL LUSK

Wilma Opal Lusk, 88, of Newton, died Thursday, July 28, 2011, at Newton Health Care Center.

A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 3, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with the Rev. John Epperson officiating. Interment will be in Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell. Visitation will be held one hour prior to her service on Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home.

Wilma Opal Lusk was born the third child to Isaac and Bonnie Sharp on Oct. 2, 1922, in Grinnell. She graduated from Grinnell High School with the Class of 1940.

Following her education, she worked for the Department of the Army during WWII and then became an employee of the Veteran's Administration in Des Moines. She married James D. Lusk shortly after WWII. She worked for the Veteran's Administration until her retirement with 30 years of service. One of her great pleasures was assisting veterans with educational benefits.

Opal is survived by her son, Jeffrey Lusk of Roselle, Ill.; her brother, James Sharp of Newton; two granddaughters; and one great granddaughter.

Opal was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Alma Bates and Doris Krumm; and her brother Floyd Sharp.
