MRS. EMMA CUMMINGS RITES HELD
FRIDAY AT STEFFY FUNERAL HOME

Funeral services for Mrs. Charles (Emma) Cummings were held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 24, at the Steffy Funeral Home. The Rev. Howard Hayes, pastor of the Montezuma Methodist Church officiated.

Music at the services was provided by Mrs. Dean Doonan, soloist, accompanied by Miss Alice Underwood, organist.

Casket bearers were Ralph Wells, Harley Rose, Bevan Wilcox, Frank Wheeler, Clifford Braley and T.W. Chamness.

Interment was in the Masonic-IOOF Cemetery.

Mrs. Cummings, 85, passed away at her home in Montezuma on Wednesday, May 22.

The daughter of Charles and Louise Sharp, she was born near Montezuma on June 6, 1882. She attended the local school and after graduating from Montezuma High School she taught in rural schools for several years.

On June 27, 1906, she was united in marriage with Charles Cummings. To this union three children were born. A daughter, Katherine, died in infancy. Their entire married life was spent in the Montezuma community where they farmed until their retirement in 1940.

Mrs. Cummings was a member of the Methodist Church and an active member of the Womens Society of Christian Service as long as her health permitted.

Survivors include her two sons, Carl of Montezuma and Ray of Des Moines; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
