MARLENE KAY DELK

Marlene Kay Delk, 56 of Grinnell died December 7, 2013, at her home after a lengthy illness.

A memorial service has been scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 11, at the Church of the Nazarene in Grinnell with Pastor Harley Schull officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Marlene Kay Delk Memorial Fund.

Marlene was born April 13, 1956, in Mason City and was the daughter of Champ and Dorothy Hoover Delk. She was raised in Grinnell and attended schools there with the class of 1974.

Marlene held various jobs in food service in Grinnell and was also employed as a Certified Nurse's Assistant (CNA) at local nursing homes in Grinnell. She knew the value of hard work and was dedicated to performing well at her job. She raised four children with the help of her mom and dad.

She loved arts and crafts, making Christmas ornaments and painting. She enjoyed flowers, cooking and people. She was friendly with others and always had a smile.

Survivors include her mother, Dorothy of Grinnell; four children, Lyndsey Etter and Nick Etter of Grinnell, Whitney Ruple of Mason City and Jessie Ruple of Grinnell; four brothers, Lyle Helgeland of Mason city, Dennis and Gordon Helgeland of Marshalltown and Gene Montgomery of Sylmar, California; one sister, Linda Carberry of Minneapolis; and seven grandchildren, Kendra, Kaylee, Jaden, Ryleigh, Aleah, Jahkira and Haylee. She was preceded in death by her father, Champ; one son, Justin Etter Delk; and a nephew, Gilmore Justin Helgeland.
