NELLIE DOONAN, 97

Nellie Dell (Cranston) Doonan, 97, of New Sharon, passed away on July 14, 1997 at the New Sharon Care Center in New Sharon, where she had been a resident since June 1993.

Funeral services were held July 17, 1997 at the United Methodist Church in Montezuma. Officiating was Rev. Emmanuel Tabelisma. The Congregational Hymn was "What a Friend We Have in Jesus." Organ was played by Alice Underwood. Honorary casket bearers were Robert and Christopher Oliver, Deanna and Samantha Grubb and Faith and Sara Leichty.

Nellie Doonan was born to Brown and Clara Cranston on the Cranston homestead, near Deep River. She attended country school and graduated from Deep River High School in 1919. She was married to Robert Doonan on December 24, 1921, to which one son, Robert Dean was born.

She was a member of Montezuma Methodist Church and an active member of Order of Eastern Star for over 60 years. She was an active housewife, artist and piano player. She loved her family and was happiest when surrounded by friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers, Glen, Rex and Russell and her great-granddaughter Melissa Grubb.

She is survived by her son, Dean, his wife Louise of Pella, three granddaughters, Marcia Oliver, Virginia Grubb, Debra Leichty and six great-grandchildren, Robert and Christopher Oliver, Deanna and Samantha Grubb, and Faith, and Sara Leichty; and other relatives and friends.

Memorials can be made in lieu of flowers to Montezuma Methodist Church and Montezuma Volunteer Fire Department.
