VELMA HINSHAW
RITES THURSDAY

Velma B. Hinshaw, 72, of Kellogg died Sunday, Oct. 27, at Skiff Memorial Hospital in Newton.

Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton, with the Rev. Trevor Davis-Hajek of the Kellogg United Methodist Church officiating. Burial was in Rock Creek Cemetery.

Memorial contributions to the Kellogg United Methodist Church and the Kellogg Historical Society will be accepted.

The daughter of Charlie and Lillie Belle McGaha Johnson, she was born on May 14, 1913, in Appanoose County. She was married to Homer L. Hinshaw in 1932 in Newton.

Mrs. Hinshaw was a retired employee of Midwest Smith Jones, Inc. She was a member of the Kellogg United Methodist Church and the Kellogg Historical Society.

Survivors include three sons, the Rev. Bob Hinshaw and Gary Hinshaw, both of Kellogg, and Roger Hinshaw of Des Moines; one daughter, Betty Modlin of Kellogg; 17 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Gerald, her husband; two grandchildren; and 12 brothers and sisters.
