CASTO "CASS" SHARP

Casto W. Sharp, age 82, of Grinnell, died on Tuesday, November 26, 2013, at his home.

A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, December 2, 2013, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with the Rev. John Epperson officiating. Pallbearers are Ron Sharp, Willard Sharp, John Sharp, Noah Sharp, Kyle Rojohn, Craig Andrew and Bette Modlin. Honorary bearers are Kenny Keenan and Phil Stepp. Interment will be at Our Silent City Cemetery in Kellogg.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Smith Funeral Home. His family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.

Memorials may be designated in his name to Grinnell Regional Hospice, 106 - 4th Avenue, Grinnell, Iowa 50112. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.smithfh.com.

Casto Wilson Sharp was born on January 6, 1931, in Jamestown, Tennessee to Josie Sharp. He was raised and educated in Jamestown. Following his education, he worked for a local logging company near Jamestown.

He moved to Iowa in the early 1950's to be closer to his family He was united in marriage to Susan Mae Powell on December 7, 1957, in Des Moines, Iowa and the couple made their home near Kellogg, Iowa. Cass and Susan both were employed by Midwest Manufacturing in Kellogg for several years. He worked at the Texaco Morris Oil Company in Kellogg as a manager from the early 1960's until the mid-1970's and then sold feed for Moorman Feed. he then worked for Industrial beverage Company for a few years before working at Maytag Corporation in Newton from 1986 until his retirement in 1996.

Cass was a family man, a hard worker and was self-disciplined. He dearly loved his grandchildren and cherished the time they spent together. He spent many hours hunting raccoons and fishing with his buddy Jake DeGreef at his farm pond. He was known to have a sweet tooth and enjoyed a good cup of coffee while visiting with his friends.

Cass is survived by his companion, Betty Modlin of Kellogg, Iowa; 3 sons, Ron (Cindy) Sharp of Knoxville, Iowa, John (Mindy) Sharp of Newton, Iowa and Willard (Alice) Sharp of Madrid, Iowa; daughter Lori (Brad Lepley) Wearmouth of Newton; 6 grandchildren: Noah Sharp, Tai (Craig Andrew), Joe (Daisy) Wearmouth, Terron and Whitney Wearmouth; and 5 great grandchildren: Luke and Isaac Andrew, Gabriel and Kaprice Pemberton, Emmory Wearmouth.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Susan on September 5, 2005; and his aunt, Minnie Delk.
