ELLIE SNOOK, 68

Ellie Snook, 68, of Montezuma, passed away Monday, Dec. 26, 2011, at her home in rural Monntzuma after a 10 month battle with angiosarcoma. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Dec. 30, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Malcom. Interment was held in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in rural Malcom. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church Chair Lift Fund. Friends may sign the online guestbook at www.hollandcoblefuneralhomes.com. Holland-Coble Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Eleanor Xavie Snook, daughter of Earl and Olevia (Goodrich) Lidtka was born on Feb. 28, 1943, in Grinnell. She attended country school and later graduated from Grinnell High School in 1961. She attended Marshalltown School of Nursing for one semester. After returning home, she married Eldon Snook of Grinnell on May 19, 1962 in Lancaster, Mo. To tis union they had four children, Christine, Michelle, Jason and Nicole. Ellie's miniature schnauzers, Zach and Captain, were both loyal companions, who stayed by her side until the end. During their married life, they resided in Grinnell, Brooklyn and Montezuma.

Ellie was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Malcom, where she served on the ALCW Church Women and various committees. Eldon and Ellie were youth sponsors at the church for several years. She had an unfaltering faith in the Lord. Over the years, Ellie challenged herself with a variety of jobs. Her most recent position was Poweshiek County Supervisor. She enjoyed serving the county and helping to better the county by making some needed improvements. She also was owner of Ellie's Soda Fountain for 10 years, meeting many new people and serving many fountain drinks. She never knew a stranger. She enjoyed seeing the kids who stopped by every night on their way home from school.

Ellie was preceded in death by her parents; her parents-in-law; four brothers-in-law; one sister-in-law; several aunts, uncles, cousins, a niece and a nephew.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Eldon Snook of Montezuma; her children, Christine (Greg) Shaver of Montezuma, Michelle Snook (Maynard Thompson) of Tama, Jason (Dawn) Snook of Montezuma, and Nicole (Mike) Arendt of Montezuma; her 12 grandchildren, Cameron and Jacob Shaver of Montezuma, Cassie (Nate) Minnaert of Brooklyn, Adam (Heather) Snook of Grinnell, Ivy Van Ersvelde (Andy Schuster) of Los Angeles, Paige Snook, Tailor Snook, Jaicee Snook, Colton Maschmann, Katie Maschmann and Michael (Shannon)Arendt, all of Montezuma; her nine great-grandchildren, Karsyn Minnaert, Karagyn Minnaert, Emersyn Minnaert, Hunter Van Dee, Chloe Snook, Emma Snook, Alisha Arendt, Brayden Arendt and Gaige Arendt; three sisters, JoAnn (Floyd) Hunter of Grinnell, Marilyn (Bob) Vogt of Grinnell and Dolores (Ron) Eagle of Marshalltown; one brother, Randy (Debbie) Lidtka, of Grinnell; many nieces, nephews and friends.
