TONY GILL RITES TUESDAY

Tony Gill, 76, of 410 Washington St., Grinnell, died late Friday evening at Grinnell General Hospital, following an extended illness.

The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 A.M. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Harry N. Linnenbrink, pastor of St. Mary's, officiating. Assisting will be the Rev. Leo V. Kuebrich. Music will be provided by Mrs. Kathleen Heffner, organist, and Miss Wilma Schmitz and Mrs. Ruth Ann Dayton, vocalists.

The Scripture Service will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the Smith Funeral Home, where friends may call.

Burial will be at the Calvary section, Hazelwood Cemetery.

The son of Daniel B. and Mary M. Noel Gill, he was born Feb. 26, 1900, near St. Lawrence, Pa. When he was 9, his family came to Grinnell. He attended Grinnell schools.

On Aug. 27, 1924, he was married to Alma F. Speckner at St. Colombanus Catholic Church, Grinnell. Mr. and Mrs. Gill farmed south and northwest of Grinnell until 1971 when he retired and moved to Grinnell. In recent years, Mr. Gill was custodian of the Veterans Memorial Building.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus in Grinnell. Mr. Gill had been a member of the board of directors of the Mariposa Township schools in Jasper County; the Glendale Grange in Jasper County, and the Farm Bureau.

He is survived by his wife, Alma; his children, Mrs. Donald (Dorothy) Swihart of Baxter, William Gill of Rte. 2, Kellogg, and Mrs. Vernon (Jane) Jones of Rte. 1, Clemons; 11 grandsons; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bernard Gill of Goshen, Ind., and Clayton Gill of Winchester, Va.; and two sisters, Mrs. Carl (Mabelle) Smith of Monroe and Miss Velma Gill of Goshen, Ind.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, George Gill; and four sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Jaeger, Mrs. Margaret Lang, Mrs. Cordelia Foster, and Miss Elizabeth (Bessie) Gill.
