JAMES BRENNER II

James Robert Brenner II, 36, of 1332 Spring St., Grinnell, died early Monday, June 23, of injuries he sustained in a car-bicycle accident on county road V-18 near Brooklyn.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at the West Des Moines Christian Church. Burial will be in Jordan Cemetery, West Des Moines, with McLaren's Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.

A native of Des Moines, Mr. Brenner had been a resident of Grinnell since 1991. He also had lived in Chadron, Neb., Macksburg and West Des Moines. He was self-employed in construction and roofing.

Mr. Brenner was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the Elks lodge in Chadron and the First Christian Church.

Surviving are his wife, Valerie of Ames; one son, Blake of Ames; his father, James Brenner of Oklahoma City, Okla.; his mother and stepfather, Judith and Richard Sommer of Grinnell; three brothers, Jeffrey Brenner of Ames, Joel Brenner of Grinnell, Chris Sommer of Phoenix, Ariz., and Jeffrey Sommer of West Des Moines; and two sisters, Laurel Sommer of Minneapolis, Minn., and Dawn Sommer of Phoenix, Ariz.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Boys and Girls Club of America.
