Ellen Nora Sarah Symes, daughter of Elizabeth Green and Joseph Symes was born Nov. 12, 1868 in Shepton Mallet, Somersetshire, England, and passed away June 11, 1958 at the home of her daughter Mrs. H.J. Canvin in Grinnell after a short illness.
She came with her family to America when six months old and they located near Brazil, Indiana.
When 9 years old the family came to Coalfield, Iowa where she lived almost 13 years.
She was united in marriage to Wm. Orlin Dille, Dec. 17, 1890 in Ottumwa, Iowa.
To this union were born three children, Alfred E., who passed away in 1944, Mrs. H.J. Canvin (Ollie) of Grinnell, Orlin Dille of Albia. Most of her married life was spent in and around Albia, Iowa. Since her husband's death in Dec. 1929 she had spent most of her time with her daughter in Grinnell.
She was baptized in the Baptist church but united with the Methodist church when she came to Grinnell to make her home.
Services were arranged by Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell and the Lewis Funeral Home in Albia where services were held at 2 o'clock, June 14, 1958, with Rev. G.S. Bruland of the Grinnell Methodist church in charge. Pallbearers were grandsons and nephews.
Burial was in Oak View cemetery in Albia.
She leaves to mourn her loss one son, one daughter, three sisters, one brother, eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister.
