RUBY IRENE BLANKENSHIP

Ruby Irene Blankenship, 76, of Brooklyn, died Sept. 22, at Brooklyn Community Estate. Services are Sept. 27, at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn.

Burial was in Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery.

Ruby Irene Speas was born Oct. 20, 1936 in New Providence, the daughter of Clarence and Goldie Clark Speas.

She was graduated from Gilman High School, where she was a member of the girls' basketball team that went to the state tournament.

Ruby was employed for many years as a nurses' aide at Brooklyn Community Estate. She also worked at Montezuma Manufacturing in earlier years.

Ruby is survived by her sons, Duane and wife Becky of Brooklyn, Douglas and fiancee Tammy Andrews of Heiskel, Tenn., and David of Brooklyn; a step-daughter, Tammie Hoffman of Durham, N.C.; 13 grandchildren; three brothers, Merril, Gerald and Keith Speas; three sisters, Iva Jean Beckett, Maria Ellington, and Joyce Hartz. She was preceded in death by six siblings.
