SERVICES HELD FOR
MRS. CHRISTENSEN

Funeral services for Mrs. Clarice L. Christensen, 79, of 927 Elm St., Grinnell, were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 17, at the Smith Funeral Home.

Mrs. Christensen died last Thursday at Grinnell General Hospital. She had been hospitalized for one week.

The Rev. J. Eugene Young, pastor of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, officiated at the services. Organist was Mrs. Willard Heffner, and pallbearers were W.C. Cunningham, Charles Hink, John H. Peters, Sam Rasmussen, and M.F. Zimmerman. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

The daughter of Sam and Mary Ann Berggren Swelund, she was born July 5, 1893, in Stratford, Iowa. She attended the Stratford schools and Iowa State University. In 1917, she was graduated from Cedar Falls Teachers College. She taught in the elementary grades at the Gowrie and Eldora schools for five years.

On Sept. 2, 1922, she was married to Peter T. Christensen at Stratford. The couple had two children, Mrs. Keith (Phyllis) Blake of Merrill, Wis., and Robert W. Christensen of Jackson, Minn.

Mr. and Mrs. Christensen had lived in Osceola before coming to Grinnell in 1939. While in Grinnell, Mr. Christensen owned and operated the Grinnell Creamery until his retirement.

Mrs. Christensen was a member of the Grinnell United Church, the W.S.C.S., the Pythian Sisters, the Searchlight Club, Harmony Circle, and the Worthwhile Club.

Survivors include her daughter and son; eight grandchildren, Peter, Rick and Julie Blake, and Bob, Anne, Sue, Nancy and Jane Christensen; and three sisters, Mrs. Dale (Myrtle) Bond of Ames, Irene Swelund of Mason City, and Mrs. Norman (Marie) Carpenter of Long Beach, Calif. She was preceded in death by her husband on June 26, 1959; two grandchildren who died in infancy; and two brothers, Carl and Merrill Swelund.
