MRS. BETTIE BUTLER
DIES THURSDAY;
SATURDAY RITES

Mrs. Bettie Ann Butler, 81, of 713 Center Street, Grinnell, died Thursday noon at a local hospital.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon from the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Norman Tosten, pastor of the Ames Assembly of God church, officiating. Vocal music was by Mr. and Mrs. Emil Gerard, accompanied by Mrs. James Wilson at the organ.

Pallbearers were Francis Barkley, Webb Wallace, Robert Halterman, Obie Criswell, Perry Wilson and Hollis Phipps. Interment was in New York cemetery, east of Millerton, Iowa.

One of a family of six children of Jake and Sarah Elizabeth Claybrook Bachman, she was born near Stahl, Adair county, Missouri, on Nov. 23rd, 1885. She attended the local schools there and later moved to Wayne county, Iowa.

She was united in marriage with William Samuel May and to this union were born five children: Mrs. Clarence (Alpha) Reavis of Grinnell; Hallie O. (Jack) May, deceased Mar. 27th, 1964; Mrs. Ted (Sarah) Reavis of Grinnell; Arlie May, deceased in July, 1954; and Mrs. Ivan (Nellie) Walker of Grinnell. Mrs. Butler also raised a grandson as her own, Henry Oliver Butler of Newton, and two step children, Mrs. Velma Mindenhall and Mrs. Thelma Wilson, both of Newton.

Later she was united in marriage with O.B. Butler. Both of her husbands preceded her in death, as did her parents, two sons, two grandchildren, one great grandchild, three brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by her three daughters, seven grandchildren,20 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Butler had retained her church membership with the Mt. Hope Christian church of Sidney, Mo.
