Kirkland Monroe Sackett was born in Berrien, County, Michigan, Jan 21, 1854. At the age of 3 years, he with his parents moved to Poweshiek County where ever since he as lived near Brooklyn, except the last 3 years he has lived in Highmore SD. In February last, he was taken sick with cancer of the stomach and died at the home of his sister Mrs. J A. Patten, Aug 28, 1908 at the age of 54 years, 7 months and 7 days.

Deceased was united in marriage to Nancy E. Campbell in the year of 1879. To this union 4 children were born: Susan E., Frank, Flora M. and Agnes E. all of whom survive him. He also leaves an aged mother, 2 brothers and 6 sisters to mourn his loss. He was a man who enjoyed the respect and confidence of all who knew him. The funeral services were held in the M.E. Church of Brooklyn, Iowa, last Sunday afternoon, conducted by Dr. E. Benson of the Presbyterian Church. The remains were laid at rest in the Brooklyn Cemetery.
