EVELYN GREGSON LEER

Evelyn Gregson Leer, 72, of Deep River died of an apparent heart attack at her home July 7.

Services were held July 10, in Watts Funeral Home, Montezuma, with the Rev. John Darlington officiating. Betty Snook, soloist, and Sally Johnston, organist, performed "How Great Thou Art."

Casket bearers were Kenny Gregson, Jerry Snook, Roger Gregson Jr., Dennis Gregson, Troy Snook and Wayne Gregson. Honorary bearers were Jeff Snook, Dough Gregson, Scott Snook and Rob Gregson. Burial was in Pleasant Township Cemetery in Ewart.

Evelyn was born May 3, 1920 in Dayton Township, Iowa County, the daughter of Carl and Jessie Harbert Rauch. On Jan. 12, 1938, she married Enos A. Gregson. Enos died April 22, 1967. On Aug. 8, 1968, she married Joe E. Leer. He died May 17, 1984.

Evelyn lived in Deep River most of her life, where she was a cook at the school, worked at the turkey processing plant, wallpapered and cleaned homes. She worked at Montezuma Manufacturing until her retirement, and also took care of elderly people. She was a member of the Morrison-Schrader American Legion Auxiliary at Deep River.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands and one brother, Carroll Rauch.

Evelyn is survived by her family Sheldon and Donna Gregson of Montezuma, Robert and Joyce Gregson of Deep River, Roger and Diana Gregson of Montezuma, Patricia and Keith Snook of Montezuma and Janet Snook and Rob Arterberry of Maquoketa; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Margaret Mullen of Harcourt; and two brothers, Charles Rauch of Millersburg and Cecil Rauch of Deep River.
